Greetings and Salutations!

I was going to lj-cut this and decided against it since I need all players to read this. Please bear with the length.

I am Red XIII ([livejournal.com profile] _red_xiii_), your new mayor for Fandom Town, located at [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies. You can call me Red.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to our fair city.

The citizens and residents at Fandom Town greet you with open arms. We are a small, quaint and familiar population with a wide variety of things to offer to make your stay here (whether transient or permanent) a pleasant one.

Full amenities are available; you need only drop by the Chamber of Commerce to explore what we can offer. As a community that sprang up to support FandomHigh High School, we are fully prepared to meet the needs of those residents and staff head on.

Once a week, I will sort through new applications and grant business and residence licenses. Only then will a townie be allowed to open their shop or move in. They are still free to interact with whomever they choose, just not allowed to open a new entry in the name of their business.

If an application is not filled out properly, it may delay the opening of your shop while we sort out the paperwork, so make sure you have everything in order on your bio page as is requested and outlined in the application form.

Whether you want to be a business owner or just a regular townie, you’ll need to go through the application process.

As our own population grows, of course we must rise to meet the demands for keeping the peace and to keep our streets clean and safe for residents and students alike. To that end, several edicts shall be placed with the full endorsement of the administration of [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh.

I would suggest you familiarize yourself with the rules and regulations already in place with [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh as you will see several of them repeated below.

Some general words about Fandom Town.

One thing I would most respectfully request is the returned respect of those townies who have chosen to set up shop here. If you have a plot that will affect or disrupt townie tranquility, you will first need to clear it with me, the moderator for this comm.

Usually, hijinks of the teenage troublemaking kind that do not disrupt business are fine. If it’s going to affect any segment of the population or any business or resident, make sure you go through the proper channels of notifying me and clearing it with the business or resident affected. You’ll find I’m a reasonable guy and won’t squash willy nilly. I do like to be informed so that I can protect the townies and business owners, though. That is my job.

Just because a business is not represented on the townie map or directory doesn’t mean we don’t have it. It simply means that there are little letters of NPC floating over the top of them. Use them as you would like but use them responsibly.

For example, we do have a police force. Black and whites patrol regularly, on foot and in cars. They are competent and capable, not the Keystone cops, and can be called in if necessary to mod as needed. Be a bit respectful, though, when handling. The NPCs are not buffoons and shouldn’t be treated as such unless it is an NPC set up to be a buffoon.

We have a post office and a courthouse, a public works department, a small library, a butcher, a bakery, antique shops…all the things a small town has. All NPC based businesses are available for ‘adoption’ if a player so chooses, so be careful when giving names to NPCs you might interact with as it could mess with your plot line if someone does eventually come in and bring a business to life.

The town is also populated with NPC town residents. Right now, they are what keep the businesses open and interact with the businesses along the fringes of player interaction. Otherwise, none of us could afford to stay in business!

Please continue to hold and have respect for individual townies and business owners who have chosen not to take part in the craziness that is [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies was set up as a way for the students to blow off steam, do things off campus and to provide a wider variety of ways for people to meet and greet.

We still welcome [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh residents with open arms. That has not changed and will not change. Just bear in mind that we are players too and like to play on occasion. We’ve just chosen to take on characters with a slower pace and demand of play than is available at [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. Don’t ignore us! We are what bring the town to life!

I realize, of course, just like in any town that develops around a school, the kids don’t normally hold much respect for the businesses except when something is needed. That’s to be expected. I do expect player respect, however.

Now for the business townies and residents. Students, don’t skip this!

If you own a business, have been listed in the directory as owner/operator, there are certain things expected from you.

At least one posting a week from you (or your employees) opening your shop for business. If you are the kind of shop that allows free use of players to open for them, that is acceptable. The Perkolater comes to mind as an example of that. [livejournal.com profile] coffeesmith has stated it’s acceptable to open a post in [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies for patrons to congregate.

I would still request the proprietor at least make an effort to show up once a week in [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies, either at their shop or in one of the local gathering places. (Park, Church)

If your shop requires only yourself or your employees to open shop, then it is expected of all players to respect this and to not open the business for them in a [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies entry. Spike’s Pub, Red’s Tattoo and Wonka’s Candyshop are three businesses that come immediately to mind that allow owner/employee openings only. Any posting made by a player not on a business’s approved list will be deleted after an appropriate warning to move/edit it.

Use the bio information that will be required on each townie LJ and the townie directory when making that determination. It will be clearly labeled.

If after a month, I’ve seen no business activity for a business set up, I’ll remove it from the directory and suspend posting access to [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies until the issue is resolved. Feel free to make an in-game post if your owner has to go out of town and the shop will be closed. Make sure to drop a line to the Chamber of Commerce voicemail so that I catch it.

I’m a light touch with the suspension/moderator hammer when wielding it in day to day activities. Don’t make me bring it down on your head for a special occasion as I do work out daily.

Some things to be said about RP in town.

A couple of these should sound familiar as some were lifted straight from the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc announcement.

1. God modding.
If you are doing anything that affects another player, their possessions or doing something that a certain player would (through magic or other means) be aware of, you are required to clear it with the player first.

This also applies to opening shops that have not given permission for non-employee students to open. As stated above, I will first warn to modify the entry, if it’s not done within a reasonable amount of time (3 hours), I will delete it.

Anything that affects the town as a whole, any of the businesses or the town population, must be run through me first.

2. OOC/IC Knowledge.
It is very, very important that you keep a clear line between what you know and what your character knows. Given the number of mages, psychics, aliens, mind-readers, bugs and ‘other’ around here, unless you’re taking insane pains to keep something a secret… someone, somewhere will know.

I think that’s pretty self explanatory.

3. Age requirement.
I’m requiring the age limit of players in this part of the game to adhere to the same rules as set down here.

4. Chronofluidity, with a twist.
From this post about being in two places at once. I’m not so much concerned about a player’s classes and whether they can be in class and working at their job in town or visiting a shop owner. That’s for the player to keep up with.

I will ask for you to pay attention to the [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies. If someone has, for instance, opened an entry for The Perkolater or the Park, use it if you can. It’s really unnecessary to open a second entry unless it takes place much, much later in the day.

Utilize the subject line ruthlessly if you must open a second entry, include the time of day, and please read the already opened one to get a sense of who’s there and their time.

Half a dozen entries of “Bob sat by the fountain waiting for someone to talk to” is going to make the fountain quite crowded with people after a while. Go talk to someone already there!

If the action happens in town, there needs to be an entry for it in [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies. This will also help to prevent overlap of a huge boxing workout session occurring in someone's personal LJ while there is a gang war going on in a townie entry at the same time. I think one would affect the other.

I’m not looking to put a strangle hold on the town. I’m simply looking to keep the town from getting run over by disorder and chaos and to make it a town that will attract other players and characters to open businesses and to provide interaction if they don’t wish to join the chaos that is [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh. We townies like to interact with the students, and with each other.

Come play with us!

Attention all current Townies and Business Owners

Please pay attention to the following.

Here is a list of the town directory. Closer examination will indicate that some of the owners have chosen to sell their business and move on. Some have stayed on and are making a go of it.

Resident and business owner alike, if you would, please review the list and indicate any changes needed to your listing as a comment below. New owner, new LJ, new/different employees, new/different residents/residence. I’ve tried to capture those that I had seen floating through the boards but I’m positive I didn’t catch everyone. I will delete them as I correct the list, so if it disappears, that’s me doing the adminy thing.

Then, once you are satisfied with your listing, please go to the application page, fill out the needed information and email it to me at ff.redxiii @ gmail.com with Townie Information in the subject line. You’ve already set up shop and your business is going swimmingly, you’re already working and interacting in town as a resident, this is for my information only. And…don’t forget to indicate to me if you allow non employees to open your business for play and interaction so that I may make a note.

The deadline for doing this is Thursday, October 20, 2005. If I do not have your information in my email inbox, you will be crossed off from the directory and put on suspension to post entries in [livejournal.com profile] fandomtownies until I receive said email.

This also goes for those residents that work for any governmental office or agency (FTPD, I’m looking at you). Everyone listed as a townie in one form or another, don’t let this go. You’ll be removed if I don’t get this information.

And make sure you are signed up in the [livejournal.com profile] fandomhigh_ooc comm as well. Game notices and overall game business happens there. You don't want to miss anything.

Once that is done, I’ll open up applications to new businesses and residents.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

A side note: [livejournal.com profile] cameronmitchell, [livejournal.com profile] silent_robert and [livejournal.com profile] frank_apple...I'll be working your issues today. Expect emails soon.

edit the first: Fixed broken links. Stupid MSWord...

Michael busied himself at the computer, printing up checks for the bills that needed to be paid. He was lucky enough to have his old friend Ted in Pittsburgh handling most of the accounting for the business, but he was stuck doing the bills, no matter how much he hated it. Math was not his strong point. He'd much rather chat with customers.

If one were to peak in the windows, one would see the ever-immaculate Lilah Morgan dressed in a gorgeous Hugo Boss Suit, Manolo Blahnik sling-back heels, a welder's mask, and holding a lit blow-torch.

She is advancing on what looks like a radio with malicious intent.

Lifestyle seminar starting now.

I want to know why only one of you produced an essay for this week. Make it good. I haven't handed out any detentions yet, but there is yet time.

And then tell me about illness, frailty and disability ... and the difference they make to lifestyle.

Geoff can be found wandering aimlessly around town. He doesn't seem to have any particular destination in mind, and he may be just be a little bit drunk.

[He can be found in pretty much any part of town -- except for Spike's pub, and might stop into another thread or two. Anyone who wants to chat/comfort/harass him is welcome.]

She and Ten get back to town. She parks the car at the lot, and they walk back to the TARDIS. It's clear she has something on her mind, but she isn't ready to talk to him.

She picks through the kitchen to find some old scones, and goes out to the park bench by the pond. The ducks are greedy and do not sleep when there are blueberry scones to be had. She absentmindedly tosses them bits as she stares at the water.
