It was a beautiful day in the neighborhood as far as Jamie was concerned. Which is why he had put up a notice in the window that chicken breasts and thighs were on sale at 10% off.

Granted most people would fail to see a connection but then again Jamie has a very strange mindset.

He'd survived his Math mid-term. That being said, Makoto had made sure his girl-guise was utterly flawless and then headed down to the Perk for some much needed caffeine.

Why couldn't they just sleep for a week? He slumped in one of the chairs, then realized that it wasn't very girly to slump quite so much and straightened just a little bit.

Mmmmm, coffee.

Mexico had been great. Alex kind of wished she was still there.

But, she was being good and came into work, even if she was still a bit exhausted from the trip. As Alex took a seat and waited for people to come into the store, she realized there were souvenirs she needed to send home. Granted, she could just zap them home, but she figured her dad would be mad with her if she did that. The post office it was.

The Magic Box was open!

Annette was sitting on top of the counter, legs crossed, feet bare. She was glaring at her Mary Janes who seem to have a mind of their own today. They were... dancing. Actually, studying them as she was, they looked to be doing the Merengue. Halfway to work this morning, they decided they didn't want to be on her feet anymore, and Annette literally had to fight with them, tugging and pulling but all to no avail. They hopped away from her only to show up five minutes after she did, to work.

Fandom. It could be weird.

"Bad shoes leaving my feet bare and cold," she mumbled.

"Catch us if you can!" her shoes sing-songed, continuing with their dance.

Annette sighed. "I could throw you away if I wanted."

Both shoes quit dancing, turned, and marched their way over to her. Hopping up, they kicked her in the shin. "Ow! Stop it!"

"Take it back!" The two snapped at her. "Take it back right now or else you'll get another!"

"Fine! Geeze. Go away!" Her shoes seemed to smile at her which was really kind of freaky, then they hopped away and started dancing again. Reaching over, Annette turned on her portable stereo and tuned into some jazz station. Dancing with no music just looked odd. "Don't say I never did anything for you."

The post office is open.

Back from vacation, Lucas resumed his work at Wonders. The first thing he did was try to contact Ms. Stayton about her incredible gift, only to hear from Andrew that Joanna wasn't available to him at the moment.

Disappointed, Lucas took inventory of the colored golf balls, thinking about the really cute girls he'd met in Mexico and wondering if he'd see any of them again now that he was back in Fandom.

Tom seemed to be getting his first experience with Fandom weirdness.

About halfway to the island that morning, his shoes had... apparently begun to fight his feet. It was quite a dangerous ride from there on to park his car, and when he'd gotten out, he couldn't make his shoes take him in the right direction. Instead, he'd gone for something of a wild run around town before finally passing by Pizza Planet, seizing the doors and holding on for dear life until his shoes untied themselves and ran off, squeaking "WE ARE FREEEEEE!" in tiny voices.

So it was a late and rather unsettled Tom who opened the store today. He wondered if his shoes were ever going to come back, or if he'd have to stop by someplace in town to buy a new pair before going home.

George Michael Bluth was running circles around his banana stand. Eddie was flying over his head, trying to peck at his hair. But it wasn't George Michael's fault. It was his shoes! They wouldnt stop and he just kept running and running and running, making soft whimpering noises and chuckling nervously on a ragged breath.

"Okay stop... s-stop now," he said. Then, "What's going on? Someone... my shoes are alive!"

"Anyone?"

"Anyone?"

And around and around he went.

Romeo was a little late to work on the first day after spring break, and not because he had overslept. His shoes had first argued among themselves over which pair he would wear, and then the winning pair -- brown Steve Madden boots that did look nice, even if they always chafed the backs of his ankles -- made him change clothes four times before permitting themselves to be seen in public.

And then his route to work had been circuitous, as the boots took him out of his way to avoid any patches of mud, grass, or gravel.

As he unlocked the store door, he remembered (with a sinking stomach) the store's wall of shoes. He knew Fandom well enough by now not to hope for peace -- which was good, as he found none.

He walked in to see two pairs of red stiletto heels with peep toes engaged in a death match, each trying to push the other off the display. "Payless tramps, both of them," a much more expensive-looking high-heeled loafer sniffed.

"Oi!" a high-tongued Doc Martens boot greeted Romeo in a Cockney accent. "Richie! Come over here and give us some sugar! An' polish us while you're at it."

Romeo took off his boots before settling behind the counter. It was going to be a very long shift.

Yitzhak was feeling a little . . . soulful today.

That might have had something to do with waking up this morning to find his boots and his stiletto heels in the middle of what could only be described as a gang brawl . . . with dancing. The boots had been trash-talking the heels, which couldn't talk back and settled for trying to impale the boots instead.

He'd ended up having to quarantine them to separate sections of the apartment, despite the boots' loud and really rather profane objections, and much to his chagrin was wearing a pair of battered old saddle shoes -- a fashion embarrassment to be sure, but they were shy and retiring and the best-behaved out of his collection.

Yitzhak was a little heartbroken that his beloved footwear collection had turned on itself and taking it out, as was his habit, on the kitchen staff. The stereo was cranked up today, playing a whole lot of Earth, Wind, and Fire, just to sort of cover it up. Not that it was particularly working.

Book Haven, Monday

Seregil was in a very good mood as he opened up the Book Haven and set out the usual cookies and tea. Mexico had been fabulous and the best part of it had come back with him and would almost certainly have repeat performances here.

He was humming a half formed tune under his breath as he settled down with a book or Ireland.

The Book Haven was open.

It was fairly early in the morning when Cable unlocked the shop from the outside, not even bothering to flip the sign as he marched in. It would be over two hours before he returned to the shop area, a cup of coffee in hand and a change of clothes on the rest of him.

He regarded the street beyond the window, thoughtfully. Then sat down, the chair creaking slightly under his weight.

Spring break was over. He was still working.

The cookies that he had been given yesterday was long gone, and Gabriel was utterly bored. Cat was too. So they sat staring at each other, neither of them moving, Cat on the altar and Gabriel on a pew.

Having oh so handwavily returned from New York yesterday, Chad was sort of looking forward to opening the record store today because he missed the place. And he missed Prince Oscar Pedro, too, so they were just mostly hanging out behind the counter today as Chad caught up on the ear skritching he owed the kitten for being away for so long.

It should probably be noted that Chad, also, was barefoot, as he'd left his shoes in his closet. They were complaining this morning, it would seem, an awful lot an in a really bad accent (they were Italian leather, after all, and expensive stuff, too) about his weight and the kitten's tendency to nibble on them. So he just left them in the closest and hoped Melody wouldn't mind.

Reno was in A Mood.

That kind of mood that gets you all twitchy and angry. The one that makes you want to beat things. It went hand-in-hand with the fact that he hadn't had his mag-rod out in two months, really.

So Reno had found his way to the gym, and he was going to spend the whole night swinging his favorite electric metal pipe around in rage.

Barefoot. As you do.

Tino was manning the bar alone tonight. He was very happy about that.
