Barney was smart and had purposefully blocked all outgoing mail from Fandom to his New York City (sorry, no luck for you, Robin) and so could blissfully oversee the gathering of guests, students, teachers, and townies happening in the park. The day was bright and sunny, regardless of what any weather reports might claim.

The Student Council had done a nice job getting things together to greet the visitors. A wide variety of sumptuous food was spread out on long tables at one end of the park. In the center were plenty of comfortable blue and gold tables and chairs perfect for sitting, chatting, and eating. To the other end of he park was the registration table where visitors could sign in and pickup their name tags.

Just above the registration area was a gaudy banner announcing the start of a calm and relaxing weekend. Okay, a weekend where Barney got a lot of popcorn to listen to radio.
Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2009!

She studied the note on her desk, "An insurance investigator's looking for me? Did he say why?"

Ralph shrugged and shook his head.

"You're a real prince, Ralph."

It was Parents Weekend, and Lily was stuck at work. She'd much rather be at the park, even if she didn't have anyone coming. Open houses were pretty much no fun, but it was different when there was this level of trauma involved!

She'd put a sign in the window:

ENCOURAGE YOUR CHILD'S TALENT
LET'S START WITH 25% OFF!

It wasn't a very good omen that Mary arrived at the front desk, clipboard in hand, to find that a gremlin sitting in her chair. Without hesitation, she gave the gremlin a good whack over the head with her clipboard. The dazed gremlin lashed out, but instead of biting her, it sank its teeth into the front desk computer.

"No! That computer had all the reservation information!" cried Mary.

The gremlin shrugged, then stumbled off into a storage closet, with Mary quickly shutting the door so it couldn't get out.

Hurley hummed to himself as he worked today. Diego had done his dirty work again, 'losing' the parents weekend invite before their mom could see it.

Hurley was still worried that his mom would freak out and pull him out of the school. But now that he didn't have to worry about that anymore, Hurley was smiling happily and working hard.

He'd be glad to sell you flowers for your special kid.

Dani rushed through her chores today so she could change her clothes before heading to the park. It would be nice to see her dad again, but she suspected that Ken had some sort of agenda in coming to see her. But once she had the horses set up in the paddock, she was going to meet with her father and find out what was going on.

The Gig was open!

Harper was still stinging from Eric's rejection, but she was dealing with it. She was grateful that her parents weren't coming for the weekend, though. She'd gotten a letter from her mother yesterday, explaining that Daddy had come home from his year-long vacation and they needed to spend some time together. Knowing her mother, that would take about a day, so Harper planned on calling tomorrow to catch up with her dad.

Still, it might be nice to see other people with their parents. She'd probably leave a little early to see what was going on at the park.

Things Reborn was open, and there was probably an extra discount available if you could get Harper to smile.

[The OCD will be taking the day off.]

Unaware that most people would change a sign such as the one standing outside of Our Lady of Fandom with, say, their hands, Castiel went out at about lunch time and stood wiggling his fingers around to rearrange the letters.

Welcome, Friends and Family

the sign said, in English, Spanish, and Sanskrit, followed by its usual declaration of catering to any religious or spiritual need. He'd considered adding something pithy about God or perhaps the souls of dogs, but rather felt that might contradict the whole "catering to any religion" thing.

The church was open, as it always was, and Castiel was there, as he sometimes was, ready to answer -- or dodge -- any questions from either the people of Fandom or their guests.

When he wasn't starting flame wars with slash fans on the internet, of course.

[ooc: Open church is open! Whee!]

...suffice to say, Liir had fled the 'Parents Weekend' opening celebration and was now happily at work, cleaning everything until he was practically damaging the shelves with how much he was dusting them.

Elphaba was here.

Elphaba was here.

Elphaba was here.

He wasn't sure if he was more upset that the dead had returned, that it was Her of all people, that Fiyero wasn't here, or that he was reasonably sure what might happen if Ino caught sight of her and he wasn't sure if that was a good thing.

You're going to have to talk to her.

To which his mental response was mostly GAAAAAAAAH.

It felt strange to be in the store on a Friday, but with a sigh, Aphrodite was there.

She would miss Valentine, but felt it was very important to keep the spirits up at the store. To that end she had fixed two displays in her honor. The first was purely about art, glass and otherwise. As she put the final touches on this display she thought about having a contest to see if anyone on the island could design and create anything as unique.

Hands on her hips, she thought about that. "Naaah. This is Fandom. A contest like that, and things might start coming to life or something."

The second display was more in the vein of . . . physical fitness. She had, after all, heard about Parent's Weekend, and thought it was important to show she had the health of her customers in mind. Even the pogo stick was on display.

But it was the art display she was most fond of, and she kept a small . . . sculpture on the counter next to her. She thought Valentine would be pleased.

'Dite's Decadent Delights is open, with a sign in the window that reads, Welcome to Fandom! 40% off displayed items for all Parents and Families! 50% off for students who bring a family member!

She couldn't wait to scare meet people.

Arya opened up the store, taking time to make sure things were in order. Apparently, there were visitors on the island and should any of them come by, she wanted to make a good impression. No faulting her for that.

Great. Picnic in town, stuff he needed to do paperwork-wise while it was, this was grand, Ray was totally up for this. Or, you know, not. He had his head buried in the stuff and he was this close to throwing a former bagel through a window or something. Seriously.

Ralph rolled his eyes at him.

"Oh, what are you looking at? You lookin' for a fight? Huh?"

Ralph turned around and clomped away.

"Yeah, that's what I thought."

This... was not a day to be doing inventory.

It was Parents' Weekend. That meant that he was fairly sure one certain reporter would be showing up - and hopefully no other guests. Still, there was no sense in not arming up for the occasion. The large gun in the hidden space under the counter was joined by one or two friends.

Jan was sitting in her chair, smacking one of her ragdolls around. Tether was guarding the door.

Cable was ready.

[[ open and OCD-less today! ]]

The day his eldest was coming home for a visit and John was stuck at the shop because of an unscheduled delivery. How did he get into this owning a business thing again?

He was doing his best to get it all put away and organized as quickly as he could so he could get home. In the meantime though, the Magic Box was open.

It was still a good day to torment guests and locals alike and there was still plenty of food (courtesy of your Fandom High StuCO) in the Park, welcoming visitors to Fandom Island.

The registration desk was still open and the banner waved in the comfortable breeze announcing the event of the day.

Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2009!

Tino wanted to know where Marion was. It was Parents Weekend and the place was going to be busier than usual. He needed the help. He took the complaints to Chuck, who, for some reason, decided to come in super early with his mean dad and his creepy uncle.

"She's in the back stocking things," Chuck said. "Jack hit on her one too many times."

Tino stared.

"Ugh, I'll pay you double tonight if you stop staring at me right now," Chuck said as he re-filled his scotch. "So creepy."

The longer before Barbara met any of her teachers, the better, Dinah felt. She couldn't even say why. Maybe just instinct?

Anyway, there was a Muffin Diversion, with Helena as well, and now sugar was being consumed after a box of muffins was bought as a possible bribe for her teachers.

"Sooooo. What's going on with you and Nightwing? Hmmmm?" she asked Barbara, peeling the paper off her muffin. "And does Jesse know you can't tell him apart from his hottie twin?" she asked Helena.

It was good to be the youngest.

[for some birds of prey, but open as a Biscuit Shop is]

Kyle had spent the better part of the week hyped up on energy drinks (thanks to Lacey), which meant that the bulk of his time was spent working on projects that would do some good. Somewhere in there, he managed to get his voice recorded letter to Connor done and just now he had sent the tapes in the mail. He didn't know how the tapes got home, since he at least knew that everything had to be organic to time travel the conventional way, but the postal worker assured him that it would get there. (Besides, that was totally wrong and Kyle really needed a proper lesson in how these things worked.)

He shoved his hands into his jacket pockets as he exited the post office and headed up the street. Kyle expected a quiet weekend. He'd get to meet some of his friends' visitors from home, but he knew no one would be coming for him.
