Jack had read the note, and spent a night unable to sleep. Dawn came and he decided to do something. A nice jog. A long jog, around the Pond and back, maybe even get some coffee.

Outside of The Perk sat a red man in a long coat, tail swishing back and forth a bit, sipping his coffee...from a giant half-gallon mug.

Jack decided to keep running away jogging.

[Early in the morning, non-interfere-y with any other Perk posts. Open for interaction of either or for pets to stalk the red guy's tail. No OCD. SP welcome. Offer not valid in Vermont.]

Azula was not pleased. She didn't expect any visitors, she didn't want any visitors and uncle was the last person she'd think of visiting.

She led Iroh from the park to the coffee shop. "There, now buy your precious tea."

She didn't know if this shop served tea but she really didn't care.

There was a note left for Hoshi at the front desk once more, but this time, it was a warning about the gremlin sleeping in the storage closet. Hoshi frowned as she read it, then went to the kitchen to get some back-up in the form of the sous chef and his rolling pin. They carefully approached the closet, with the sous chef preparing to hit the gremlin again as Hoshi opened the closet door…

But the closet was empty. There was an air vent on the floor where the vent cover had been removed, so it looked like the gremlin had found an escape route. Hoshi figured it had to be pissed, so she went back to the front desk to call her boss and warn her. At least, that was the plan until there was the sound of plates breaking from the kitchen. Hoshi went to see what Gunther had done this time and forgot all about the gremlin.

Hurley was actually a little disappointed. Sure, he didn't really want to deal with any parental outrage or anything, but with everyone else meeting family, he was a little bummed.

So he actually called home on his shift at Groovy Tunes today. And promptly got his ear chewed off because his mother had found the Parents Weekend letter in the trash. Carmen was very disappointed in her Hugo.

Hurley didn't blame her.

He sighed after his mom was done yelling at him, and put on a mix of classical music, just to be more parent friendly.

Groovy Tunes was open.

Jean had a friend in town. Her best friend. Friends. Yup.

Totally friends.

So, she was just forced to bring him along to work with her. And to meet Mr. Dayspring after gushing about him and how he'd been helping her with her powers and he was just soooo dreamy.

"I don't actually have anything to do with the--weapons--part. I do the meditation."

Poor, poor Scott.

So far, this was an awesome weekend.

His mother had stayed home rather that coming out -- Bart was here, she'd said in her email, but Eric thought he might just try to avoid his step-father. There were lots of hot guys on the island.

And he'd met another gay guy just about his age, and he was cute.

Eric fairly bounced his way into the Perk. On the one hand, he probably didn't need the extra caffeine. On the other, he needed to build his strength so that he could track down the guy's sister -- he'd said her name was Kate, and that she was a student -- so, uh. He could ask her what her brother's name was.

So they'd missed an important part of the conversation yesterday. Oops?

He got his order, a venti, non-fat, no-whip raspberry hot chocolate with extra foam, and sat down at a table to plan his plan of action.

Claire was very antsy about this dinner. She wasn't even sure if she'd be able to eat. Her mother had done some meet and greets with her teachers and the principal this afternoon and Claire knew that this dinner might make or break her ability to stay in Fandom.

Plus there was the whole thing with her mom meeting her boyfriend. This could be a spectacular disaster.

[Claire's here for a few people, but you can use this post for your own Outback needs!]

Jack WASN'T going for his usual trifecta of drinking, fishing, and napping on the boat today. Instead, he was drinking beer and reading. Much more respectable-looking, in case what's-her-name's mom stopped by. He was already plotting how much he could make Jon squirm at dinner tonight without scaring off the girl's mother.

Yesterday, it had been the store. That was Jean's responsibility today, which meant that Cable's hands were free to tend to business at town hall. After all, you never knew what kind of people were liable to show up - there were radios to transcribe, notes to take, paperwork to go through.

He found he was getting a lot of use out of the tiny playpen-crib-whatever-you-chose-to-call-it he'd finally had installed in the back of the office. Sure, it left him... a lot less space for the filing cabinets, but at least it meant most of his pens were working.

Sometimes there wasn't an answer to life's problems except for ice cream. So here Andy was at the Chilly Boulder, suggesting to the guy behind the counter that he really wanted to give Andy a super deluxe sundae for free.

Hey, powers caused by demon blood or not, free ice cream was free ice cream and how could there be any bad there?

The Student Council had broken out the fancy decorations for the town hall tonight. The parents and guests had received handwavey invitations at registration, to give them a chance to get away from their victims for a little while if they wanted to. The tablecloths were sharply pressed, the tables were arranged in an orderly fashion, and shiny gold seemed to be the color of the night, in the balloons and ribbons scattered around. There was a line of tables filled with finger food and, most importantly, an open bar for all who arrived.

[OCD is up, up and away! The invitations went to the guests but anyone can come and crash!]

Tino wanted to know where She-Ra was. He was still in need of help dealing with all these parents and friends and...guys in spandex.

"She's flying rounds of the town," Adora said. "The life of a superhero and all. But Adam, Bow, and I are here to help, Tino!"

Tino stared. She was not asking him to talk to the guys in spandex, was she?

"Is there something on my face?" Adora asked, frowning. That man always looked on her so oddly, but still he was a friend.

[Let the cheating continue. Mod Tino.]

Jono did not eat. He would have loved to, but it was somewhat difficult, all things considered. Which, naturally, meant that there was no food on his side of the room with which to feed hungry little time travellers who may or may not have stolen his bed.

And of course she didn't have money to feed herself with. You don't think about things like that when you go lunging into sentient mist in order to 'rescue' missing teammates, do you? And so it was up to Jonothon to play reluctant host, and to feed the girl.

"Get whatever yer want. The leftovers ought to at least keep until supper, Lee."

He was going to just sit there and give the waiter dirty looks for bothering to set a place for him at all.

[For the dazzling one, but open should anyone else want to drop in, as well!]

Dude. Dax was here. This meant that they had to do so much stuff while they still could! Like... looking at the castle! Eating! Talking to other people! Or, you know, less boring things like racing through the park, which was exactly what Jak was doing, Daxter on his shoulder. Closer and closer to the pond, they ran! This was fu--

Hey, that was one massive cloud of pink.

That was not only a massive cloud of pink, it was a very, very interesting cloud of pink, so far as the little orange Ottsel was concerned.

"Seagull?" Daxter Freakout Mode in 5... 4... 3... "Jak! Wouldja lookit the size of them funny pink seagulls? I gotta get'em! Gotta get'em and chase 'em and show 'em who's the boss of this pond! That'll teach 'em to be here, and pink, and--" If there was more to be said, it was lost in the pitter-patter of psycho Daxter feet, because he was off like a rocket after them.

My, they were somewhat tall for seagulls.

... Jak was pretty sure those were not seagulls. Dax and him had chased plenty of seagulls in their time, and they were a lot-- whiter, and, uh. But hey. Chasing birds! He barreled off after the psychotic rat, bare feet pushing off against the grass. It was weird, kind of, how Dax managed to achieve more speed than him when it came to--

--massive, curious-looking pink seagulls, who turned slowly on their stilty feet to stare at the menace that came thundering at them.

If you asked Dax, they were not taking flight because they were stupid, stupid birds, and it had nothing to do with the fact that he barely came up to their knees, and why weren't Ottsel feet properly equipped with a set of brakes, and... and...

"Jaaaaaaak!"

Now the game had shifted from 'chase the seagulls' to 'ten-pin pink bird bowling,' because Daxter had gone into the most spectacular bright orange somersalt the world had ever seen, directly into the domain of the enemy.

And here Jak had just been trying to avoid Samos.

The gym wasn't empty when Rose (still in a bad mood) showed up for her afternoon training session, but it was empty of Dimitri.  She checked the clock to make sure she hadn't shown up too early or late then started to check through the gym to make sure this wasn't some sort of ambush-y training exercise.

Huh.  One missing teacher.  Maybe he had family show up.  And if he did, Rose so wanted to meet them.  She wasn't going to give up on her training though and be accused of slacking off by her mother so she started working the bag.  Possibly picturing a certain redhead's face on it as she did.

So between the two of them, Jack and Tony had three vampires following them around for the weekend.

Clearly -- possibly especially because it was a bad idea -- they all needed to meet. But where? Meals weren't exactly the right choice, what with more than half of their party on a liquid diet.

After exhausting all other ideas and throwing up their hands, they had selected a bowling night, which had Jack looking doubtfully at the shoe rental.

"I don't understand why I have to change my shoes for this," he observed. "We're just rolling a ball."

There was a very large yellow bird wandering around the park carrying a small green frog.

If this wasn't strange enough, the bird was singing.

"Most with cones for seeds, most with needles for leaves
C is for conifers, my kind of trees
Large junipers and fir, spruce, cedars and pines
C is for conifers, more then five hundred kinds
If you see a Christmas tree or a stack of newspapers or a 2x4 frame of a house
It's probably made from pine trees and pine trees are conifers, that's what this song is about
Or if you see a plant in the shape of an elephant, or in the shape of a dog
It's probably a shrub, a conifer shrub pruned into that shape by someone
Most with cones for seeds, most with needles for leaves
C is for conifers, my kind of trees
Large junipers and fir, spruce, cedars and pines
C is for conifers, more then five hundred kinds

Spoken: There are so many different kinds of conifer trees.
This is just a few of them: Spruce,
Hemlocks, larch, cyprus, juniper,
Fir, Douglas fir, cedar, yew,
Pine, the dwarf conifer,
And the great California sequoia redwood.

Most with cones for seeds, most with needles for leaves
C is for conifers, my kind of trees
Large junipers and fir, spruce, cedars and pines
C is for conifers, more then five hundred kinds.

Contrary to what it might have looked like, Codex did not run away yesterday after her unexpected meeting with Zaboo. She'd strategically retreated until she was in a better frame of mind to deal with her remaining two Guildies who had decided to visit, which was now. She felt a little bad when Zaboo told her that he and Vork were staying in a tent in the park (she wasn't sure where Clara was, but knew it was probably the hotel in a room with the minibar and wifi), but not bad enough to actually invite them in. She couldn't do that to Jonas. But at least she knew where they were and now she was going to see them on her own terms.

Codex kept repeating 'on my own terms' over and over in her head as she approached the tent. "Do I knock?" she asked herself. "Um, Vork? Zaboo? Do I have the right tent?" It was, as far as she could tell, the only tent.

No one had visited Tyler this year. He could afford to be smug, although, as a mission of charity, he'd brought in an array of chips, pastries and other snacks. "I think everyone in the room gets a cookie for living through yet another parents' weekend," he declared. "And guests, welcome."

Ghanima was doing her best not to laugh. "We haven't lived through it yet," she reminded him. "But we're glad you're all here. The rules are on the door, but since there's so many people today, we're going to forgo assigned matches."

"Open sparring only," Tyler agreed. "Go to it."
