Reese was drinking tea. This could account for the unicorn things she's seeing now. The sparkling unicorn. She stared at her cup, blinked and looked at the unicorn. Nope, still there.

"You're so nice," the unicorn gushed. It had done nothing but compliment her and Reese was getting a little uncomfortable with the attention. "And so bravely stoic."

"How do you know I'm brave?"

"Because you're a police officer! Police officers are brave!"

"I'm a detective."

"Even better!"

"Uh, do you need anything?"

The unicorn shook its head, "No~pe."

"Is there a reason you're here?" Reese asked.

"I'm here to see you in action!"

"I'm only going to do paperwork."

"Yay, paperwork!"

Reese looked around and saw the Troopers were also busy talking to or listening to the unicorns compliment them. Some were even letting the unicorns get close enough to nuzzle them. "You're not going to suddenly turn into a ravening beast, are you?"

"I don't think so but I bet you can defeat me with your great police skills!" Its enthusiasm was a little disturbing. "Can I watch you work? I've always wanted to see a detective in action!"

"I'm just going to do paperwork," she said, wondering why she's repeating something she already said.

"Yay, paperwork!"

Reese stared at the unicorn. "Maybe I should stick with coffee."

"Yay, coffee!"

And thus began Parents' Weekend. It was an overcast day but the rain had long since tapered off. Just in case, tents had been erected all around the park to protect from the potential for wet stuff. No one needed their guest showing up cranky because they'd been rained on.

There were tables and tables of all sorts of food and drinks. There was something for everyone. The Student Council had spared no expense. Blue and gold tables and chairs were also spread out underneath the tents, giving guests and islanders a place to sit down and chat or sit down and eat or something to hide under.

A registration table stood near the front of the setup where guests could check in and get a nametag. A banner adorned the edges of the tents proclaiming:

WELCOME TO PARENTS' WEEKEND 2010

The sky was still overcast, the tents were still up, the food was still flowing and the guests were still being welcomed with open arms. Or maybe they were being welcomed with glares and huffy sighs. One thing or another, the guests were here and the people of Fandom couldn't really hide from the outside world anymore!

The sign hadn't gotten less blinding in the last week, unfortunately. Ben wondered if it would have the power to wake him up all on its own without him having to stop by the Perk for a morning cup of coffee.

Of course he hadn't tried out this experiment, but it was worth thinking about.

Ben was behind the counter of Fixer-Uppers messing with his comlink and counting down the time until his father's ship broke atmosphere.

Until then, Fixer-Uppers was open!

Harper was in an upbeat mood. It was going to be fun meeting everyone's parents this weekend, but it was going to be even better because her parents were not showing up. That would have been really embarrassing since her parents were so weird.

Don't tell her that the apple didn't fall far from the tree.

Things Reborn was open!

Jenny was at Pixie Dust, sorting clothes for burning (Ariel and Shelley were probably going to be sad when they came in next week, as Jenny suspected some of their favorites were in the 'doomed' pile) and being quite glad no one was coming to see her.

There was a sign in the window. It said:

BUY SOME NEW CLOTHES
SO YOUR PARENTS WON'T RECOGNIZE YOU

Pixie Dust was open.

Sure, things were a little hectic at the front desk, but that didn't bother Mary, who was all bouncy with excitement. It had been way too long since she had seen one of her best friends and she was still amazed that Sam had volunteered to come to a town without a casino.

"I'm giving you an extra copy of the room assignment list," she said to one of the NPC desk clerks. "Think you can handle check-ins while I go find my friend? I'm sure Gunther will help you out."

Welcome to the Arms Hotel!

There was some sort of big ruckus on the island, but it wasn't the time for new people to arrive -Del knew that much-; whatever else was going on was gathering people. Well, it didn't have anything to do with her, or it did but she wasn't actually aware of that. Either way she didn't need to worry about it.

Or she did, but she wasn't. Delirium's logic was by default the best one ever.

She was much more interested trying to decide whether Led Zeppelin tasted better than Deep Purple.

Groovy Tunes is open~

Sookie found herself a spot to wait, after texting Eric her location (on a park bench. ffs can't you just smell me or something?) She tried not to tap her foot with anxiety, but it was a hard thing. She was still sort of worried that somehow, having the vampires here would merge the two worlds she did her best to keep separate.

It would have been so much easier if she'd just gotten Jason to come. Sure, Bobby would have been threatened with bodily harm, but otherwise, everyone would have just had a nice weekend with lots of beer and fried food.

Stupid vampires.

[for the two who are coming! If you'd like to meet Pam and/or Eric, feel free to assume Sookie sent you a text, too, or just wander through.]

Jessica woke up and headed to Caritas as soon as it was dark. She knew there was something going on up at the school with people visiting, but nobody would be coming to see her. After all, her parents and her deadbeat daddy vamp had no clue she was in Fandom, right?

Really, Kūkaku couldn't have asked for a better situation. Not only did she have an extra pair of hands to set everything up, but she knew there were other visitors on the island, making for a much larger and hopefully more appreciative audience. She wondered if this was the sort of thing she should have gotten permission for, but, what the hell, it was her birthday, she could do what she wanted, right?

And so, clouds be damned, the skies over Fandom Island would be lit up with one hell of a good fireworks display. All sorts of blossoms, in the most fascinating of colours, with crackling sparkles and thunderous booms. Glitter across the sky, fiery flowers and dancing turning dragons and phoenixes. One of her best yet! Even if she only had seconds in between to start the next fuse.

[[ impromptu fireworks show, hooray! Feel free to come hang out at the beach to watch them, or mod them being viewed anywhere else on the island! I just knew I had to do something with the timing of parent's weekend falling on today! ]]

Hope was glad she didn't have any visitors coming. Mostly because she wasn't entirely sure who would qualify to visit her. And because she was afraid the island would've done something like invite Karl which, no. Just no.

But here she was, free of Karl or any other annoyances. Well, besides Apu. But he didn't count. He was always there to annoy her.

She grabbed a piece of cardboard and a marker, scribbling a sign and putting it up in the window.

If the boss didn't like it, he could take it up with her later. She didn't think he'd mind much, though.

It wasn't that Bruce didn't want Alfred to socialize at the meet and greet. It wasn't even that he felt it might be too weird for everyone (including both himself and Alfred) to see Alfred as a participant at a party rather than running it. No, his reasons for having a slightly more private meeting with Alfred than the party would allow were entirely selfish. He had spent far too much time in Fandom trying to either pretend to be social or deal with an inability to find time to himself. When the opportunity to get rid of all that and simply be himself around the only person in the world who knew him really well revealed itself, he had to take it.

The fact that he took Alfred to Lobster Hut was just because it amused Bruce to have Alfred be served at a place with "Hut" in the name.

"How does it feel to eat a meal you didn't actually prepare?" Bruce asked.

[OOC: For the butler, but otherwise open for all of your lobster or hut needs.]

There was a Parents' Weekend picnic... thing going on, which meant that Squall was nowhere near it. He would have just hid in his room, but he didn't want other people to accuse him of hiding in his room.

Also, he didn't care about what other people thought of him. Just throwing that out there.

Anyway, he decided it was a good time for a walk, so he was out and about, wandering the streets and avoiding talking to people.

[For one.]
