This whole 'teaching' idea was growing more appealing every day -- Irene's limited experience with the younger denizens of the island had been, thus far, fairly positive, and for a laugh, she'd actually sat down and started putting together a syllabus for a totally theoretical class after talking to Kitty about it.

Today found her actually researching all of the class topics she'd listed on her laptop behind the counter at the shop -- she may have been an expert in her field, but no one knew everything, after all.

But it was still totally hypothetical, of course. She was just doing this for fun. (And kept finding herself sucked into Wikipedia black holes, too, but that was part of the fun.)

Celia, admittedly, had no idea why they'd been decorating the shop for Hallowe'en for weeks, now, despite it being the middle of summer, but she hardly wanted to be the one to interrupt a good thing.

When she came in today, the first thing she did was adjust the cloak that the skeleton was wearing (and his little staff, too.) And then -- well, she might as well fully embrace it, and actually use what was given to her to contribute.

Which was why Celia was spending today conjuring delicate little papier-mâché bats and levitating them up to gently flap around near the ceiling. She'd eventually add fishing line for them to hang from, since she wasn't going to devote part of her brain to keeping them flying when she wasn't here, but they were cute in the meantime.

Large packages came through the post office all the time, of course. That was no surprise, since it was the nature of the business and all. Some of them were even being sent to the post office -- supplies, usually.

Éponine was used to that, because there were some weeks that they went through their stock of bubble wrap surprisingly quickly (and no, she wasn't asking, but the temptation was always there) and did you have any idea how many triplicate forms had to get discarded because someone had made a mistake?

A lot, that was how many, but that didn't do a thing to explain the six cases of canned soup that had arrived this morning, clearly addressed to the post office and packed in with the expected shipment of supplies. The delivery person had no idea, and neither did anyone she could get a hold of on the mainland.

. . . well. If nothing else, at least that was a few weeks' worth of dinner guaranteed in the event that she didn't feel like going out for it.

It was a nice, normal day at Caritas, which meant Kitty was pretty bored. So she kept trying to find things to do, and when she went to fix up the zombies' CD display, she noticed that they now had a second CD.

"But hardly anyone bought the first one," she said.

Know what, she wouldn't question it further.

Book Haven, Tuesday

Evan was antsy today at the Book Haven for reasons he couldn't quite put a finger on. It felt like there was something lingering just over the horizon that was ominous, imposing... heavy, somehow. Like it was lurking just around the corner, watching, waiting...

It took him until about noon to realize that he was experiencing the feeling because a handful of the books were actually physically creeping up behind him, and that was the moment they chose to strike. Or, rather, to fall on him from a bookshelf overhead, trying to pin him down to make him read a horror novel he'd put back the other week because it was just a little bit too violent for his tastes.

Books.
