Once Cafe Fina had ended regular business hours, Hatter had gone about getting it ready for the wine tasting party he'd planned for tonight. That meant bringing several bottles of wine upstairs and situating them on a long table. The food his staff had cooked and prepared was placed on a table next to it and smelled delicious, he had to say.

He managed to even get some music going without completely shorting out both the restaurant and the whole block. It just seemed too quiet with all the food and wine out and just himself and his staff there. So, there was music. Not too loud, not too brash, but something nice and comfortable for the background.

Once everything was out, Hatter opened the door to Cafe Fina and propped it open. The lights inside were bright and inviting and the music could be heard from those passing by.

It wasn't quite a tea party but it was the closest he'd come since arriving. And it was to celebrate no one's unbirthday, thank you.

Nick wasn't ignoring his phone today. Really. Odds were pretty good that the ringing that had been happening since last night, when his siblings and his mother started calling him, involved something he wasn't going to want to answer just yet.

He let the call go to voicemail. Since his sister called to wish him a happy birthday a day early and suggested they do lunch over the weekend, he kind of had to confess that he wasn't on that coast. So now, yeah, he wasn't entirely certain if he was dodging calls that were reminding him that he was another year older today (fuck everything), or family demanding to know how the hell he had been gone for a full year and a half without even telling his mother. What kind of son did that! When he had only called with a 'Merry Christmas' last year, they figured he was just busy with work! Nikolai Silas Bartamian how could you do that to your mother?!

He didn't even notice when Gunther put out the specials board today, and all that was on it was, "Birthday Cake," and birthday wishes to him from the rest of the kitchen staff.

Couldn't pay attention to birthday crap. Busy trying to come up with a decent cover for never actually coming home from that trip to Greece in June last year. Picked something up overseas, seeing somebody on this coast for it, same cover as the one he was using for his boss, but with more family guilt tacked on. This birthday was fucking fired.

Jonothon was writing, today.

Not paperwork, no, though it was the end of the month and he was well aware there was no shortage of that to be done. No, he had his guitar out, today, and a sheet of paper, and a pencil, and he was trying to make music. He hadn't done that in far too long, and there was something about spending his week traveling Glacia, visiting the sites of some of the worst tragedies of the war that left him feeling melancholy in a way that he had to express.

It was a productive sort of melancholy, at least, more suited to an acoustic guitar and some thoughtful lyrics than sitting and moping and listening to angry music just to try to pump himself up to some emotion stronger than 'tired.' If Jono could feel more of this melancholy and less of that other one, he'd actually be pretty okay with that.

He set the pencil down after writing a bit of lyric, and then he started to play again, trying to picture in his mind what he'd be hearing if he could sing those lyrics out loud.

In the doorway, there was a Now Hiring sign, and Jono would be happy to put his guitar down for a few minutes if anybody was looking for an interview.
