So, Troy's boss was apparently out for an unknown amount of time, but, instead of putting him in charge...he, who had worked for her for...a while now! And therefor should have....some sort of seniority!....Tisarwat got Summer to do it. Summer, who didn't even work here! And, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, so maybe Summer did work a million jobs and apparently had 'tempoarary manager' on her resume for, like, probably a dozen different places, but still! The whole thing was totally bogus.

Until someone came in complaining about a purchase and demanding some sort of refund and compensation for emotional distress, in which case, Troy was very suddenly fine with not having been given the responsibility and was more than happy to direct the irate consumer to the lady in charge while he went back to just listening to music and flipping through some music magazines.

Knowing that the one student that might still cause him the same level of deep concern he'd had at the beginning of this class was still out of town, it was a rather confident Ignis that came into the classroom for today's lesson, assuming none of the progress that had been made in the past few weeks had backslid at all into their former states.

"Good evening," he greeted the students with a nod. "In this class so far, we've spent a lot of time focusing on more specific recipes, but, today, I figured it would be interesting to try to explore a more broad but useful topic, and that is the simple art of baking bread. Bread is quite possibly, in this particular day and age, one of the most convenient of foods, as one can find it on nearly any grocery store, but the quality of such bread, while afforadble, is often quite suspect. And there is nothing that can compare to a nice bread made fresh in ones own hearth, so to speak.

"So today, that is what we will be focusing on entirely. The making of bread, from the mixing to the kneading to the baking, and also some of the ways in which to make a loaf of bread stretch through the week in a variety of different ways to get the most out of it. Let us begin.

"Oh," he then added, "before I forget, next week will be our final time meeting for the class, and I should like to do something a little different. I would like you to come prepare to cook a dish of your choosing for me to consider your progress in the class and make any final remarks or suggestion on the journey you have taken here. So please keep that in mind, and I look forward to seeing what you come up with. But, in the meantime, let us focus on our bread..."

If Laszlo noticed that any screens were doing anything weird, he didn't say so. Fire was a normal way to heat oneself and pretty enough to look at; humans had been fascinated by it for centuries, and it wouldn't have surprised him to see them regress to past interests.

But he didn't really notice. His cameraman did, though, and he was spending the evening behind the bar, frowning at the monitor of his camera and comparing his phone to the boom operator's.

Regular Human Wine

Maybe Laszlo would learn the actual name for things but that would require a level of caring he simply hadn't and was unlikely to reach.

Even if Annie had spent the first half of the week being run off her ass in New York (sorry, "being celebrated at a benefit"), it didn't mean she could exactly take a break from things when she was back in Fandom.

Apparently the island had other ideas, though. She'd have to think of an excuse as to why she wasn't picking up, since even as much slack as she could get, "my phone was only showing a burning log" seemed kind of...bad, as far as reasons to not answer an email or a text.

Oh well. Enforced break from Vought it was.

Yeah, so... an impromptu cross-dimensional string of gigs meant that Steph hadn't been around much for a bit, and so she was only just now catching up on a bunch of stuff at the store and getting her empty storefront-turned-artist crash pad into livable shape.

Whoops?

It also meant she didn't have any context for why her computer and phone both insisted on showing a Yule Log no matter what she did. Among other things, it made working on inventory and orders a lot more difficult, but mostly...

"This had better clear up by 10 PM or I'm gonna be so fucking pissed..."

Spoiler alert: someone was definitely going to be missing a couple of hours of her favorite actual play streaming show tonight.

Not much at the diner ran on computer screens, thankfully. It was a decidedly retro establishment. Unfortunately, the thing that did run on screens was Greg's system of looking up recipes.

And Duke's system of looking up recipes.

"Okay," Duke said. "So I definitely know how to roast some salmon. And you've got the french fry system down pat, right?"

"The timer is a yule log."

"The -- the timer is little bar shaped lights! HOW IS IT A YULE LOG?"

Greg shrugged.

Duke groaned. "Okay, so . . . roasting potatoes just means you stick them in a hot oven until they're squishy. We can do that."

Roast salmon and potatoes
No we're not getting more specific than that

"Damned island puts a Craig's List ad up without asking me first and now it's making my cook look like an idiot in front of the new tenant," Duke grumbled, and he set about grinding sea salt over the salmon fillets. "This is just mean. . . ."

Luke's was open and OCD free.

Yeah, yeah, taking inventory, selling things, checking the webshop, whatever. Margo didn’t have time for shopkeeping bullshit today, Margo had a mace, and she was starting to get the hang of it.

So anyone coming into Pick Your Poison today was gonna find a one-eyed queen in fashionable exercise wear, jabbing the air with a nicely-sized mace. Was it going to help her handle her axe when she got it later? Probably not.

But fuck, it was fun.

Crash.

“I never liked that shelf anyway.”

Liz still couldn’t believe that she’d sung karaoke at the bar last night and that it was twice in one week she’d sung in public. The Liz from two months ago definitely wouldn’t have been able to do that and now she also had another date night with Prompto tomorrow that she was looking forward too.

At first Liz hadn’t noticed anything unusual when she went to open up the Photo Hut but when she turned on her computer she noticed that the screen was displaying some kind of Yule log and when she went to try and get into her emails she found that she wasn’t able to past the fire display.

She found that oddly amusing.

Her phone at least was working so once she opened the store she opened up her email on her phone and started checking them.

[the Photo Hut is open!]
