Groovy Tunes, Saturday

Flopsy, Mopsy and Cottontail were playing on their own in the store window today. Charlie wasn't even writing. Just leaning on the counter with her eyes closed, experiencing the joy of her Very First Hangover. Made worse by the horrible, horrible suspicion that she'd said something very stupid to Dean last night. The singing had been bad enough, but then she'd been kind of incoherently confiding after that. If she'd known about the Radio broadcast, she would have felt even worse. So she hadn't really been paying attention to her surroundings when she headed in to work. Weird big bird in the sky, though.

Groovy Tunes was open. Playing very soft New Age music.

The sun was down when large shapes started to slowly appear around Fandom. At first, they were barely shadows, nothing more than what you'd think was something you caught out of the corner of your eye. Then they became more and more real, more solid, more aware of their new surroundings.

A plesiosaurus raised its head above the surface of the park pond. High above the island, a pteranodon soared through the air. Rustling in the trees near the school-side edge of the Preserve, a woolly mammoth found some leaves to eat. Finally, Efferton Manor found itself with a new resident on the front lawn, a stegosaurus who was happy to mind its own business.

Dinosaurs hadn't roamed most worlds for millions of years until now.

Now they were back.

Café Fina, Saturday!

Lumiere looked out the window of the Café Fina at the dinosaurs roaming the streets of town, and sighed to himself before looking back at the dishes inside.

"I 'ope 'zat 'zis does not hurt business," he mumbled to himself before instructing the cheese-grater to prepare the specials board for the day.

The Specials Board reads:

Half Price If You Are Not A Dinosaur!
(And Still Hiring!)

A pair of spoons was screening people at the door today to make sure that Fina remained safe.

But the spoons weren't so bright, really, so one could never be sure.

(Fina is open-- I'll be stepping out for a couple of hours for a movie, but I'll be back to catch pings this evening.)

Wig crisis sorted out (and a locking cabinet ordered and on its way), Yitzhak was back behind the counter of his diner today and staring out the window at the rather troublesome shapes out and about on the island.

If they got into his apartment and ate his wigs, he was going to have to beat every single one of them to death with a microphone stand.

Now, where to get a microphone stand?

Luke's is open.

[OOC: And themeless today because I'm about to head out of the house for a bit and find myself an urgent care clinic. OCD is up, and beasties who can fit in the building are welcome, and any pings to Yitzhak will be picked up when I get back. Hopefully after finding a place that will not charge me from one end of the galaxy to the other for not having health insurance. I love you, U.S. healthcare system. Really.]

"Oh, jeez."

That was the first thing that came to mind once Alphonse had stepped into town, close to reaching the bookstore's building. Great, there were things wandering outside... really big things, and some of them smaller, but despite their varying sizes they still looked ominous. Instead of enjoying the rest of his stroll to the store, Alphonse took whatever shortcuts he knew and scurried there as quickly as possible.

The setup was slower than usual; he wasn't quite sure if anyone would be wanting to take out the time for books today, especially with the occurrences outside.

Maybe they'd be gone by the time his shift was over with...

[ ooc: am here for a few hours, but afterwards I won't be back until late tonight. so if there's any pings, expect SP. ]

Gabriel was blissfully unaware of any extinct animals on the island. He hadn't bothered listening to the radio, being busy reading another novel and drinking instant coffee. The kettle was a blessing.

[The church is open]

Of course, Setsuna would be one to arm herself immediately after hearing the announcement that people were needed to defend against the big creatures; she hadn't expected those big creatures to be dinosaurs, as she discovered, but she did know there were plenty of capable fighters for the land. What she knew they were a little lacking on was defense from the sky. With Yuunagi ready, she swooped the air space. Because she knew there were flying dinosaurs around here somewhere.

Probably.

Hopefully.

[[ heyyyyy, flying dinos! Other....flying capable fighters, tooooo, wheee! ]]

Vala had done the radio broadcast last night, but the dinosaurs hadn't sounded violent. Consequently, she had decided that it was safe to walk to the bakery and get herself something sweet to eat. She was a big fan of danish, particulary the apple.

[ooc: Open to anyone needing the bakery, as well as any dinosaurs.]

Photo Hut, Saturday

Leo had hooked up his camera to the TV, and was watching the footage of the really big bird over and over again, trying to figure out what it was.

Photo Hut is open. Any prehistoracals that will fit are welcome to come in and chase Leo. Possibly with the Benny Hill theme playing in the background.

Finally having caught up with sleep after the whole getting ship wrecked thing, Roy had headed down to the station. As soon as he heard the radio, he'd demanded to know why no one had informed him of the dinosaurs. Ralph had merely shrugged saying they were peaceful. Wanting to be safe anyway, Roy sent a patrol out anyway.

It was less than 20 minutes later when he got their call saying they had run into trouble in the preserve. It took less than three for him to get the other troopers awake and to call Dale over to the station asap.

((Station is open for attack or whatever.))

Having missed so much work lately for jobs, Setsuna wasn't going to let a little thing like patrolling the disappointingly empty skies keep her from work. Besides, after having burned the place down once, she almost felt like she owed it to Lucifer to keep her chi up and Yuunagi with her under the bar in case any dinosaurs did feel like attacking here. She hoped, though, if anything, perhaps her being here could supply a place where people could at least feel safe, if they wanted to avoid the dinosaurs but couldn't get anywhere else.

The Devil's Nest is open.

[[ the word from the devil: he's keeping a careful eye on the place, so that any dinos, in their primitive pea-brains, would come near the Nest, feel that it's the type of place that means death, ala T-Rex lair, and avoid it if they have any sense of self-preservation, but a very good safe-haven for everyone else because of that. And the sword-happy bartender, too. :) ]]

If you look out your window and spot creatures you've only seen in movies and textbooks, you might think you're dreaming.

You're not.

The dinosaurs are still in town and they are PISSED.

[For this post, just ping in with where you are in town in the subject line and a dino will come find you. As always, please be patient as someone will get to you. I promise.]

Magic Box, Saturday

Giles hadn't listened to the radio and while he had noticed there was something large in the park on his way to the shop that morning, he hadn't paid it much attention.

There were downsides with being too familiar with weird happenings for them to make much impact.

So he was at the Magic Box, doing inventory, blissfully unaware of what was happening around the island. Otherwise the door probably wouldn't have been open.

Moist was actually quite cheerful when he opened the Post Office. "Good morning, Gladys," he called as he propped open the double front doors to let in some air. "I have a good feeling about today."

"Good Morning, Mr Lipwig." The golem was sweeping the front steps methodically, and she paused as Moist stepped out to survey the street, golden suit gleaming in the sun.

"Yes, a very good feeling." He turned and went back inside, intending to get through the backlog of paperwork and, if he was feeling mildly masochistic, pat the cat. "Nothing can possibly spoil it."

You think he'd know better by now.

The Post Office is open.

Over the course of the evening, Fandom's population increased significantly. The prehistoric creatures that had first arrived last night were no longer alone. The newcomers inquisitively investigated their new surroundings.

Meanwhile, amidst the bits and pieces of school being reconstructed at the top of the hill, an oviraptor sniffed around. Smooth rocks that looked like eggs were left out for the taking. Cautiously, it snatched one of the rocks out of the pile. The creatures around the island screeched at the sudden pain the rock-snatcher had caused. The oviraptor dropped the mistaken egg-rock and ran away, but the damage was already done.

The sudden overwhelming pain hadn't been an isolated incident. It had triggered something inside each of the creatures' minds, aggravating them beyond normal behavior, doing what pheromone-laced leis did to snakes that one time on a plane. You know the one.

For the dinosaurs (and company), new surroundings had become hostile territory and its inhabitants were to be destroyed.

For the residents of Fandom, well, it was another one of those weekends.

[OOC: This post is for the big location fights at the Rocky Bits, Park, School Grounds, Preserve, Serenity Cove and Efferton Manor. Other dinosaurs not featured here will be pinging into posts all around the place. If you post, they will come (unless you put an OOC note to say 'no thanks', but public places need not apply). Dorms, Caritas and Clinic are safe havens. If you are in need of a dinosaur to fight, please use the OOC thread to post a link to where you are. We'll try to get to everyone, but some places may get missed!]
