Ami sat down at the counter, nose in a book. She was researching the American holiday of Thanksgiving.

[open. and totally not late]

Turtle Wexler sat behind the counter of her store, usually one of the happiest places on earth, looking absolutely miserable. The slightest sound made her wince, even just the rush of mechanics from the SquishyBot, and she could barely even say "Thank you for shopping Turtle & Canary," without breaking into a fit of hacking coughs before she even finished her name. She was thinking, looking longingly at the door, that she might as well just close up shop early today, but, ugh, she still had radio to do later. Without Jeff, because he was in freaking England or Wales or wherever. Maybe that was for the best, actually, because she probably looked as bad and gross as she felt.

Turtle blew her nose loudly. Being sick sucked.

Today's Squishy flavors: Mucus, Phlegm, Grape Judas.

Turtle & Canary is open and sick.

She’d actually heard the radio for once and Ino’s mood when she got into work was subdued. The familiar routine of sweeping the floors and dusting the counters was soothing and after flipping the sign to Open she settled in behind the desk.

Ino made a note to go and visit Chad that evening. Coming down with the flu was never fun and she thought he might appreciate the company.

Wellspring Arms is Open.

Christian came in early to the clinic and found his patients had doubled overnight and were starting to be stacked up like cordwood in the exam rooms. He definitely was going to have to make use of town hall. After a few handwavey phone calls to get things officially set up, he and the nurses transfered the patients over to the makeshift hospital. Fortunately, town hall was almost directly behind the clinic, so it was a short trip. Cots were obtained and set up around the large room in anticipation of more patients.

The mayor didn't seem to be around, but Christian left handwavey messages for Principle Washburn and Sheriff Mustang about the situation. They were definitely going to have to establish a quarantine. This was spreading like wildfire. He would insist that anyone tending to the patients was going to have to wear masks and gloves.

[ooc: Patients modded without permission, because they are in no condition to resist, muhahaha. Volunteers, feel free to tend to patients as they ping in. OCD coming has arrived!

Second verse, same as the first. May be SP at times, particularly between 9:30 AM EST - 11:00 AM EST, if work gets crazy and I start drowning in Thanksgiving floral arrangements. But I am around -- you can also ping me on AIM as Chaos of Passion or via email (kajivar@gmail).]

Jack opened the Photo Hut, a bit worried. The dorms were quiet. The town was quiet.

Too quiet.

He set about rigging all of the stand-alone flash units to see if he could get them to go off all at once. Good thing he was wearing that welder's mask or he'd be blind by now.

He now had cleaning products enough to get this place tidied up, but no one would stop by to do it. Gabriel threw glares around the church, then decided he could just as well take a nap on one of the pews. It wasn't as if he was going to miss anything.

[The church is open]

Blackheart was in a rather thoughtful mood as he opened up Pixie Dust Tuesday morning. He'd heard the radio last night, and noticed that there seemed to be a few more reports of oncoming illness than normal.

He always enjoyed thinking of ways he could use disease and pestilence to his advantage.

Fine Apparel and Accessories

Maybe if he was lucky, someone would try to sell their souls to him in exchange for their health back. That was always fun.

Pixie Dust is open. And Blackheart is in a relatively good mood. He might even be polite or something today.

It was a solemn looking George Michael who did not open the banana stand today. Despite his great evening with Mary, he had listened to the radio and was feeling very bad for all the sick kids.

He wrote a note on the menu board:

Closed today. Will be at the Town Hall helping.
If you are in dire need of a banana, please call 555-NANA
and I will do what I can to make sure you get one.

If Mary had a choice, she would have remained in bed all day. But she knew that Jeff wasn't coming in today since he was visiting his mother. So she reluctantly headed down to the lobby.

When she got there, Gunther told her worried about the flu outbreak and Mary decided that it was best for her to help out down at Town Hall. So it was Gunther running the lobby for the rest of the day.

"Hello, children." If Robin was wearing a turtleneck and holding the ends of the sleeves in her hands, it was for no real reason. Really. "Lines are open, and remember, you can call in without getting me sick or even getting out of bed. Just doing my part."

Victor wasn't feeling well at all. That's why he was making his way into town, intending to go to Turtle & Canary or the Magic Box or someplace to get himself more materials to try to make himself better through science, magic, dumb luck, whatever. But he would cure himself. He had no use for the clinic. He was better than that.

He was Victor von... coughing up a lung. He wasn't about to let that stop him. He trudged forward proudly if a little more slowly than he had been just recently. He was Doom. He would overcome.

He probably looked like a schmuck to anyone passing by.

Melody wasn't thrilled to be leaving the house today, but she had to go into work anyhow to feed the cats. So officially, Groovy Tunes was open, but the door was closed and the proprietress was huddled behind the counter, usual smile absent.

She was online, ordering some CDS and composing a note to Josie, when her connection suddenly went dead and couldn't be fixed.

This was not looking like a good day.

Adam was distracted as he opened up Wonders of the World. He was really worried for everyone who'd gotten sick. He only hoped it was a normal virus that would clear up in a few days.

After a handwavy conversation with the sheriff, Dale was now manning the station to help with the communication and coordination of the troopers out in the field.

He also started brewing what would be his first pot of extra-strong coffee as he was sure the next few days were going to be long ones.

Meg had been getting ready to go to Town Hall to see what she could do for the sick people when she got the call from Dick saying he was in the makeshift hospital and couldn't make it to work. She didn't mind covering for him since she was going into town to help sick people anyways and technically she was helping a sick person by doing this. Besides, how hard could working at a bar be?

"Oh, god. I have no idea what I'm doing." she said to Tino once she got a look at all the alcohol behind the bar. "Let's hope everyone orders beer."

Wyatt had been prepared for the sight of several flu victims, but he didn't expect it to be this bad. He counted at least 15 beds, and who knew if the people tending to them would get sick as well. He conferred briefly with Dr. Troy to find out what procedures they had in place, grabbed a mask, and got to work.

[ooc: Christian modded without permission! I will be AFK for an hour and a half or so, so clinic volunteers, please keep an eye on patients and new arrivals if you don't mind. I should be back by 8:00 PM EST at the latest, and you can ping me on AIM as Chaos of Passion or belthazor FH or via email (kajivar@gmail). OCD forthcoming is up! Now in the correct comm!]

There was a sign hung on the door of the Nest tonight.

CLOSED DUE TO TOWN EMERGENCY
[identity profile] light-a-spark.livejournal.com
It wasn't too long after the meeting at the school that the troopers and the school's security moved around the island. Two checkpoints were set up; one at the docks and one at the causeway to keep people from leaving that way. Troopers and school security were moving through the streets to keep an eye on things and to help a hand if necessary.

Roy himself seemed to be covering all the points at once. He was worried, but right now at least he had something tangible to do and he was intent on making sure no one would get to the mainland.

((Wait for OCD please. OCD is up!

Fraser and Roy will be moving around town and the checkpoints continuously. If you want to talk to either of them, feel free to mod spotting them and we will tag in ASAP! Mmmmm uniforms.))

Wyatt took a brief break from the town hall clinic, needing both a breath of fresh air and wanting to see if he could get word to someone outside the island about what was going on. He and Isabel walked over to the park. "I'll be back in five minutes," he said, giving her a quick kiss.

He concentrated and tried to orb to the mainland. As per usual, his body changed into a cluster of blue glowing orbs, which zoomed upward to arc toward his destination. Except that he was suddenly stopped by an invisible barrier. The orb cloud richoceted back and forth over the park for several moments before finally crashing to the ground near where he had started. Wyatt reformed, sprawled on his back in the grass, looking around, dazed.

Ouch.

[For [livejournal.com profile] izzyalienqueen and anyone who wants to see the unfortunate Whitelighter, but they are heading back to the clinic post haste.]

The quarantine was still going strong the next morning. Men from both the security staff and the sheriff's staff had worked in shifts to make sure no one attempted to leave the island and to assist should anyone have needed help in getting to the makeshift hospital

As another day began, they were in position again, ready to stop those who made to leave, answer questions or assist in getting the ill to the hospital.

((Wait for OCD please. OCD is up!

Fraser and Roy will be moving around town and the checkpoints continuously. This is going up early for some SP so Fraser or Roy might not respond immediately if they're needed but one of us will get you as soon as we can, I promise.))

Liz came into the Post Office on time and set up for her shift.

[ooc: wait for the OCD is up!]
