The day had dawned crisp and clear, but by the time afternoon had rolled around... it was really still kind of ridiculously warm for fall. People could probably get away with not wearing a sweater, even.

Which made rather good weather for a picnic, convenient since that was the traditional way of kicking off the Fandom High Parents' (and assorted other relatives, friends, acquaintances, or sometimes even enemies, but that was harder to fit nicely on a banner) Weekend. So there were rows of picnic tables decked out in blue and yellow, laid out with just about any sort of foodstuff one could imagine. And just in case there was any lingering doubt as to the purpose of the picnic, a glittery banner (Petra's work, naturally) adorned the registration tables:
WELCOME TO PARENTS' WEEKEND 2011! )

Yep, it was still sort of weirdly warm out, and the banner was still flying, the registration tables were still open, and most importantly... there was still lots of food on the picnic tables.

Welcome to Parents' Weekend 2011! )

It was Friday, so Hope was at work.

But seeing as it was Parents Weekend, she was making an attempt at looking polite and courteous and downright busy, instead of her usual "behind the counter with a magazine".

Apu was just muttering at her.

Bod was trying to keep his mind off Parent's Weekend and the possibility that Silas might arrive without prior notice. He'd done it before and he'd do it again, Bod knew that, but with all the other questions surrounding his guardian, he wasn't sure this time. That had him distracted as he came into work and he managed only some brief conversation with the staff before his thoughts got the best of him and he excused himself go to tidy up the front of the diner so he could open up.

TODAY'S SPECIALS
Real Meatballs and Spaghetti
Portobello Mushroom Lasagna
Shrimp Bisque

Rilla had placed signs directing visitors to where she was waiting in the playground to conduct the super-official Student Council tour of the island. As she waited for any interested guests to arrive, she pushed Jims in his stroller to keep him sleeping: it wouldn't do at all to try to talk over a screaming infant.

She'd even found copies of maps of the island so that visitors wouldn't wander around lost after her tour.

[OOC: Please hold for slightly insane OCD... proceed with your tour...]

Yeah, Toby didn't even put up a token argument about coming up with the special today. He was far too preoccupied with the whole impending-visitor thing, and just let the droids pick out whatever they felt like. Which in retrospect maybe wasn't the best decision on the day a bunch of strangers arrived on the island, but whatever.

Dani was on the phone, talking to her brother while leading the horses out to the paddock. "Seriously, Junior, you don't have to come visit me. I'm fine. In fact, things are really busy here," she insisted. And just so she wasn't lying, she dropped of Duke's lead and tried to shoo the horse into the wooded area beyond the paddock. "Oh, I have to go. One of the horses just jumped the fence and I need to chase him down. Bye!"

With that taken care of, Dani hung up on her brother and went to "retrieve" Duke, who was doing a poor job of running away.

It probably wasn't unusual to see three people appear on the causeway.

However for these three travelers it was very unusual indeed.

There was no point in trying to hide from his father--Luke would be able to find him anywhere on a planet, let alone an island as small as this one--so Ben decided to go to work for the day instead of heading for the afternoon picnic.

He'd head there later to run interference for Ender when Peter arrived, but right now, the fewer people Vestara had the chance to interact with, the happier Ben would be.

He was currently slightly grease-covered as he poked at a refrigerator for Warren's van, but he'd be happy to be of assistance!

If you weren't Sith, of course.

Tara was grateful she had to work today; it put the kibosh on any urge to spend the day dwelling about the last parents weekend, when her mom had visited. She got to the shop early and did her best to get things in shape before any tours could stop by.

She placed a large sign in front of the bookshelves: PLEASE DO NOT READ ALOUD. THANK YOU!, and added a little cartoon of a person reading, then an arrow pointing to a surprised-looking frog, underneath in hopes that anyone who walked in would get the point.

As much as she hated the "be careful, or she'll turn you into a toad!" thing, she had to admit there was no such thing as being too careful when you were mixing visitors and magic.

[OOC: Open magic shop!]

Eric was taking special care around the club tonight before they opened: it wasn't that he felt the need to impress Pam, but it was just...nice to have everything appear at its best.

Which would explain why Tiny was stuffed into a black shirt and pants combination instead of his usual attire: even he wasn't going to argue with Eric when he had that sort of look in his eyes.

Eric opened the door and added a tasteful "Welcome, Visitors!" sign to it.

They'd still have to pay the cover charge. There was a limit to Eric's hospitality.

It was Parents Weekend, which meant Arya was taking extra care to make sure the store was in top shape and presentable for the arriving guests.

Last night, Mary had called an emergency staff meeting to discuss the situation with the logs, which seemed to be appearing in the lobby at a frightening rate. The bell hops volunteered to take them out back, so Mary put the logs out of her mind while she rushed to get the rest of the hotel ready for guests.

Today, as Mary was dealing with last-minute tasks, the bell hops came running into the lobby with big grins. They solved the problem with the logs, they explained to Mary. How? They built log cabins behind the hotel.

"I was expecting you to chop them for firewood, not built something with them," said Mary, not quite sure if this was a good thing. She ended up taking a look for herself. The cabins seemed fairly well-constructed, and the housekeeping staff had outfitted them with luxury amenities. They seemed to hold up well against the elements and even had stoves that provided plenty of heat. "I guess they can stay for now, though I'm not sure anyone would want to stay in one," she told the bell hops.

Seifer didn't have anyone coming to visit him for Parents Weekend, and even though it was a bit of a downer, he wasn't letting it show. Instead he had cleaned the store from top to bottom, straightened all the shelves and generally made it look like it was run by a responsible adult and not a high school student.

So, now he was sitting behind the counter, going over inventory lists and listening to a mix of early punk bands on the stereo.

There was a sign in the window, that would hopefully bring in new business.

Jessica knew there were visitors to the island this weekend, and she was hoping Bill wasn't going to show up again. She was still mad at him for giving up on Sookie. If he loved her so much, despite the crummy things he'd pulled on her, then why wasn't he out looking for her?

On the other hand, if he brought he presents -- fit for a princess, of course -- she might be a little bit forgiving. Relationships with daddy vamps were so complicated.

For now, in the spirit of fall, she was making pumpkin martinis and Cape Codders.

Ben had lost track of Vestara at the picnic somewhere between his talks with Tony and Peter, so now he was back on the prowl to make sure she wasn't up to evil, Sithy things.

He stopped dead when he found her, finger pointing accusingly. "You have cookies!"

Clearly this was the first step in some sort of nefarious plot!

[OOC: Because I think I'm funny. For Vestara and anyone else who wants to be tempted by eeeeeeeeevil Dark Side cookies. Or just cookies. Because Ben's a little crazy.]

Hey, for once, Freddie didn't even have to set up a live feed to Seattle! It was amazing.

The problem came that Gibby had seemingly made friends with a duck from the duck pond.

"I think it should be on the show!" Gibby declared.

"It doesn't have talent," Carly said, very matter-of-factly. "And are we ignoring the fact that this entire place is crazy?"

"Guys, don't worry, we'll just--" Freddie started.

"Hey look, I've got a pumpkin on my head!" Spencer interrupted. He did, indeed, have a pumpkin balanced on top of his head. He was having trouble coping with the fact that everything seemed to command attention away from him.

"--Everybody just pretend we're in the studio," Freddie said. This was going to be a tough one.

[ooc: belated iCarly post is belated! We'll be on massive SP, so feel free to wander in whenever! OCD first though, please We are ready and open and roarin' to go!]
