There was no power and it was snowing out, and Katchoo was just really glad that Emma (who was from Toronto, and knew a thing or two about cold weather) had insisted on her getting some decent winter clothes before she'd arrived. But yeah, work and no power? Screw that. Also, as a bonus, Clocky wasn't going out into the snow -- probably for fear of getting stuck, but whatever, it bought her some peace.

She built a snowman, a little sad she couldn't manage to sculpt realistic looking hands giving off rude gestures, beside the front door of the store; courtesy of a set of inexpensive watercolors it had a face cranky enough to make her look all sweetness and light, and right about where its heart would be there was a hollowed-out space in its chest where Katchoo had put an ashtray.

Candles were a bad idea what with all the chemicals in here, so when she wasn't out smoking Katchoo was just sitting close to the window, in the dark. Maybe scowling out of it just a bit, every now and then.

The snow drifted gently down onto the rooftops of Fandom Town. Lights shone brightly out many windows, televisions babbled their messages out into the night, and the washers hummed happily in the wake of their week-long strike. Peaceful, cosy, and packed warm, Fandom prepared to settle into the cold night.

Somewhere in one little cable, something twiddled that should have fizzled. A lamp shattered.

And the lights of Fandom surely died, every single one of them winking out at once. Shadows crept in, and with them, an eerie silence. No TV no washer no dryer came to life again, no single heater chose to spark, and even the coffee machines spluttered once then failed their grind.

The snow kept coming. Within Fandom itself, awareness stirred. Gently, blankets wafted into the cold corridors, fireplaces gathered, ready for life, where there'd previously been none, and candles shot up high to compensate for the dying of light.

In the bowels of Fandom, among the machinery, a banner reading WE APOLOGIZE FOR THE INCONVENIENCE sprung up for no apparent reason.

It had taken Jeff a long while to get over his fear of phones.

This weekend, all that progress had shattered into tiny bits of former progress and left him a fearful heap on the floor. It wasn't the man soliciting and then rejecting him because Jeff had wished fervently that he was gay on many an occasion, but it had never stuck. Same went for the second message.

No, Jeff was scared because the cops were onto him, and he was completely sure his mother had let them in on things. He had thought that the underwear burning had gone unnoticed! Oh, god.

He was hiding under his desk all day. The phone was off the hook.

Not that it made any noise, what with the power outage and everything, but Jeff could sometimes be very keenly unobservational.

There were many things Sarah would say she did not miss about L.A. The traffic. Her Wienerlicious uniform. People trying to kill her even more often than the CIA norm.

But she had to admit, it had been nice to have a whole winter without thinking about snowstorms or power outages. The weather on Fandom this week almost made a girl want to go back west.

She kept her coat on as she opened the store, putting a few battery-powered lanterns out for light. For heat, she was contemplating if it was in the budget to start a fire with back issues.

It was freezing and dark and Claire had decided the snow could just go back where it came from, thanks, as she opened the store. She'd seen it now, and she wasn't much of a fan.

Inside the shop, she busied herself putting the entire stock of blankets and winter coats in the window. It might help her actually sell something, and moving helped her keep warm.

Okay, seriously, Ino liked the cold. What she did not like was a lack of heat inside. What did the power do to deserve that? She was totally sulking. Compounding that was the fact that she’d actually, you know, had to go outside and then was actually expected to work.

Ino was so totally bundled up today with a scarf and mittens and a hat (and, in a fit of trying to entertain herself, the red hoodie that Romeo had lent her eons ago and she'd just, uh, forgotten to give it back), and once the utter basics of keeping the shop looking good were done she tracked down the spare blanket and huddled under it in Cable-san’s chair.

The cold, nor the snow, bothered Johnny. But it bothered the rest of the staff at Lukes. They all talked Johnny into flaming up so they could sit around him and stay warm. He even let them roast marshmallows because he was nice like that, and in a relatively good mood.

Snow was awesome!

Being from Minnesota meant that Amber was totally used to the cold and snow and the occassional power outage. But when she got to the store she found out the generator was broken by way of Apu, who (kind of oddly) was standing behind the counter wrapped up in a red Snuggie. Raising her brows she decided she'd just stay in her coat, scarf, and mittens. But wow, what a great selling item, yah?

With the power outage and the cold, Savannah really hadn't wanted to leave the dorms. However it was cold out there and it was a bit gray due to the snowing and the cloud cover.

That would be why she was at the store on her day off. She figured people would need camping equipment and other things for light and warmth right now. She had lit a few of the laterns around the store and was bundled up in a coat at the front of the store.

It was cold! She really hoped she didn't get sick from this.

Nast's is open.

After a quick trip to the sporting goods store, Rusty returned to his building. If he couldn't get his hands on a generator, he could at least do his best to keep his tenants warm and comfortable.

There were battery operated lanterns all over the lobby. In one corner was a pile of down sleeping bags. A propane stove on the counter boiled water for instant coffee, tea, or hot cocoa.

And a fireplace had randomly appeared in the lobby as well.

Dale was up to his ears in paperwork and convention planning activities. Add to that the power outage and you had a very busy day indeed.

However thanks to Dale's earlier disaster planning sessions with Renee, the office was currently with power and heat due to the timely purchase of a power generator.

And more importantly was the new coffee machine. The one that was being installed right now by the finest coffee machine installers available. It was big. It was shiny. It had a coffee grinder built onto the side for the freshest and most precise grind possible. It also allowed you to brew three coffee pots at the same time.

He even had one brewer set up to brew only "bad" coffee and was labeled as such.

And on the other side of the coffee machine was an M&M dispenser.

Dale had stopped all his paperwork and convention planning just to enjoy the sight of such a beautiful and wonderful machine.

Ammy had left their apartment this morning feeling more free than usual. The pair hadn't noticed the lack of power much, what with a thick coat of fur, and no dependence on modern technology, the two were perfectly content, at least until Amateratsu decided to go outside. The weather reminder her of Kamui and the other northern lands, and she wanted to play in the snow like she did back in Wep'keer. She had tried to peacefully get Issun to join her be he had just given her a look.

"Listen poochie. I may come from North, but that doesn't mean I like the cold! I like it warm so all the babes wear less clothes! If you're going out, I ain't comin'."

And so she'd chomped him up into her mouth and brought him by force. She seemed quite proud of her deviousness, but no one but Issun could really tell what she was thinking. She opened her mouth and Issun leapt out indignently. "Oh no you didn't! My handsome self is now covered in slobber! You OWE me furball! You better find me date or something."

Ammy seemed to shrug it off, as much as a wolf can shrug, and Ammy began to roll a snowball with her head while Issun sat on her back, shivering from the dog drool.

Liir came in with a goal, a mission of sorts.

The kitchen utensils were all a little wary at first, but once he'd explained, they were all quite happy to help. The pots especially.

It took a little finding to get the containers he'd need, but once he had, it was just a matter of preparing what would go in them. Then there was the chocolate and... well, it would be a little costly (for him, as he'd never rely on the cafe to pay for his own hairbrained schemes), but he thought it might help business. Especially on a day like today.

He was only glad the restaurant cooked with (proper) gas.

Penelope was very glad to find Caritas warm when she came in for her shift. The power was on and she couldn't be more pleased. What she was surprised to find, however, was a wheelbarrow of snow parked next to the counter where Tino was making miniture snowmen. He was lining the bar counter with them and sticking umbrellas in their heads for hats. He decorated the rest with peanuts and pretzels and yellow liquor.

...and they were melting all over the place.

Sighing, Penelope stepped behind the counter and began placing them in small bowls so they wouldn't leak everywhere.

The band was playing Frosty the Snowman to keep with the theme of things.

As soon as she warmed up, she might think all of it cute. But yellow liquor? That's kind of ... ew.

Stupid weather. Sure, snow was fun, but by the time Ichigo made it to the store, he felt like his toes had frozen off inside his combat boots. He stomped his feet off outside of the door, but it seemed to be pointless as he still left a puddle on the floor when he entered.

He was expecting it to be freezing inside as well, but instead, there was a fireplace right where a rack with more native junk used to be. Candles were spread out over the whole shop and there was a stack of blankets on the floor in front of the blazing fire. Right on top of said pile of blankets lay Jeremy the Rat, curled up and snoozing.

"Shoo!" Ichigo shouted at the rat and it instantly disappeared under one of the racks.

By the time Ichigo had finished putting the sign in the window and straightening up the shop (he couldn't see where the junk went to), Jeremy was sitting a few feet away from the fireplace, shivering pathetically.

"It's not working," Ichigo told him, glaring at the wee rat. "Go away before I catch you and throw you outside."

Jeremy somehow managed to look even more pathetic as he slinked away, shivering even more now.

Ichigo groaned and clearly it was working because next thing he sighed, "Fine. Just for this once." He didn't need to say it twice as Jeremy instantly caved the pile of blankets once more.

Edmund was not very fond of trekking through snow. Snow falling was fine. Riding through snow was okay, but not ideal. But having to walk through snow had bad memories attached and he tried to avoid it as much as possible. It wasn't possible today, not without leaving the horses and he couldn't do that.

If he seemed more frowny than usual today, it was because he was as he groomed, fed, watered and covered the horses so they were comfortable.

Naomi wasn't entirely sure what to expect when she came in for her shift after she had finished class since there seemed to be an island wide blackout, after an initial inspection it appeared that the back up generator had kicked in so there did seem to be power, which she was relieved about.

Stark Industries is open.
