In a continuation of an Approximately Week-Long Period of Time That Had Not Gone Well, Katchoo had woken up not only to realize that Francine's bed was empty and the most likely reason for that, but that she was a @(*&)! frikkin' guy AGAIN.

And scruffy this time, at that. Argh.

On a Wednesday, which meant work, and . . . great.

That guy slouched behind the register, staring at the cell phone in his hand like he didn't know what he'd do if it rang today, wore an awfully familiar scowl. The odds were good that the voice would sound exactly the same too, even.

This week could get better any time. Right?

[OOC: All I know is this Strokes of Genius post looks better when OCD-free. And open. And guess who's been listening to too much JoCo lately.]

After doing her thing at the dorms this morning, Layla was back over at work organizing things for the day. Since she knew that it wasn't just students that were affected, Layla had placed a display of jeans, slacks, novelty t-shirts and dress shirts at the front of the store.

A sale sign was also posted saying:

Free Novelty T-shirt with every pair of pants puchased!

It would seem that whatever had passed over the island had once again been forced to pause at Cal, tilt its head, scratch at it a little, and then move on, barred by some technicality that was working in Cal's favor without him even knowing it. This was actually incredibly fortuitous, because if it hadn't been for his chromosomes (just as, in the past, it hadn't been for his plumbing), he might have been stuck with having to explain why he was as traumatized, if not more so, than some of the girls on the island.

And it was a good thing, too, because he'd had enough of that sort of trauma in his life, thanks, and, besides, how the hell was he going to get these invitations for Ino's birthday party tomorrow finished if he was stuck in trauma?

He did feel that there was a more manly swagger to his walk than he usually tried to put in it, though.

Sure, he could have probably just sent an email, but he still wasn't that keen on computer.

So.

She was sixteen today.

She was also at work, which was a bit of a bummer, but Cal had said he was throwing her a party tomorrow evening so that was something to look forward to, anyway. Even if she’d, like, told people the right-wrong day because, hello, her birthday was today and he hadn’t told her earlier that he was changing the date. Maaan. Ino gave him points (a lot of points), though, for telling her beforehand. And, you know, having a rationale that made sense.

However, the thing that really took the cake?

Was the fact that she was spending her sixteenth birthday as a boy thanks to the stupid island.

Thanks, Fandom. Thanks a lot.

Valentine had been expecting a day like this for a while now, so it didn't surprise her that she'd woken up that morning as a boy, but it did take some getting used to. And she thought maybe she'd look a little more like Ender, or Peter, but it was kind of nice to know that she still stood as herself under the duress of new temporary chromosomes and a different center of gravity.

She'd expected Gunther would be used to this sort of thing, too, so she was a little surprised that he was surprised to not see someone more Valentine-looking come into work today. But she realized that she could use this to her advantage, explaining that she was the new guy, Valentino, and when Gunther asked if she spoke German in German, she just looked at him with confusion and said, "Gesundheit?"

Which meant he left her alone and she settled behind the counter with a book.

Liir realized the problem with today rather early as he was making his way to work, which meant that most of his efforts today would be spent in the back making Ino a birthday cake instead of focusing on the customers. If his employers had a problem with that, well, he'd deal with it then but he knew his priorities when he had them.

Ares Aphrodite was not in a good mood today.

Yes, her hair was still perfect, but it was not her normal blonde. Yes, her clothes still fit perfectly, but they were white, not pink -- for some reason it seemed wrong to change the colors of the leather.

And she? Was a he. Which was absolutely wrong.

But she'd convinced herself that Fandom needed her, Fandom absolutely needed her to be in the shop today. After all, on the off chance it wasn't just her, there might be teens out there that were happy curious worried about the changes in their bodies, and she (he) should be there to help them enjoy be comfortable with the new parts they might have.

Even if she wasn't necessarily comfortable.

While 'Dite was brooding, Hercules jumped onto the display counter, sniffing cautiously at the white leather.

"Hercules, if you make me mad today there will be at least one girl in this store and it won't be me."

The orange ball of fluff blinked at her innocently before jumping down to find somewhere less dangerous to play.

Ares' Dite's Decadent Delights is open. Talk to the godess in leather.

(ooc: Post is open, though I'm on sporadic SP due to errands and such. Come poke Ares Aphrodite!)

Jack was unpacking a new shipment of cabbie hats with those short brims. He tried one on...and put it back on the display. It messed with his mullet hair and didn't feel right.

Granted, Alex did not expect to wake up quite so ... masculine. Today. And it probably would have been a good excuse to call off sick, if she needed one.

But she felt like being in the office, so to the office she would go. If anyone asked, she was going to pretend she was a new associate at the firm. She should make up a suitably nondescript Pretentious Law School Graduate name. She'd think of something.

She hated this fucking island, some days.

Well. It had been a while since Alice had been boy-shaped. She was the same boy as before, though that was hardly surprising. It would have been more remarkable if she were a different boy each time, since she was largely the same girl as before.

(Physically, at least, if not mentally. But then, mentally, she was still Alice, so that particular point was moot.)

Today? Today she was going to open the store. And work on a blurred-gender sort of playlist, just for occasions such as this one. And hang a sign in the window:

GROOVY TUNES IS NOW HIRING
WOULD YOU NOT ENJOY WORKING HERE?
I ASSURE YOU, MOST OF US DO

Somewhere, Chad would approve.
[identity profile] findingelena.livejournal.com
Okay, it was weird looking like her boss, yes. (Her boss's boss, technically. If she looked like Tseng today, her brain might have exploded.) But Elena was always one to consider the angles. She used her key to open Pixie Dust, even though it wasn't her day to work. At least there, she could find clothes that fit.

In fact ... she could probably find an amazing, gorgeous white suit like the one Rufus usually wore. Something expensive and exquisitely tailored.

... Damn. She didn't just resemble Rufus, in this outfit. If she swept her hair back, like so? She could probably pass for him, at a fair enough distance.

This? This had possibilities.

Since she was going to be here for a while, playing dress-up, she decided to open the store. Other people might need boy-sized clothes, too. So she put a sign in the window.

DISCOUNT ON MALE CLOTHES
FOR HOT GUYS

Which was nicely inclusive. She didn't care if they were always male or not, so long as hot guys dropped in.

Pixie Dust was open.

Naomi had woken up that morning to discover that she wasn't the same gender that she had been the night before. She had been at Fandom long enough to not being freaked out by the change but she had to admit that she was a little surprised since up until now she had managed to avoid the gender swap.

Being a boy didn't stop Naomi from getting to work on time for her shift, however, and she quickly made sure that everything was set up and organized before she opened.

Stark Industries is open.

Between the fact that he didn't usually work tonight (or any night, for that matter) and the fact that he had a very interesting (and oh so fun) afternoon, Chuck almost forgot to come in. Not that Tino would have known the difference. Chuck barely worked while he was in there anyway.

If Tino had bothered pointing this out, Chuck would point out in return that he was the boss and bosses didn't have to work if they didn't want to. So there.

The Museum had displays about the history of the Fandom/Gnu Light in particular, and Chesapeake Bay Light Houses in general, as well as a gift shop and a bit of an art gallery (all stuff with light houses of course.

The upper floors of the museum were set up to look like what they had in the house's hey day, and visitors could climb the tower if they wanted.

Being a cove was strange, but in the end she'd decided she'd rather be a cove for the day than turn into an animal. Which according to Lady Aeryn was a possibility. She found herself touching the side of her face every so often, wondering if she'd changed back yet. She'd feel it if she did, right?

Stop fretting. It'll be fine, Pounce assured her.

Twas easy for him to say. He was still a male cat. A cheerful one at that.

At least the pigeons didn't care how she looked, they were glad to pick up the crumbs Beka tossed them.

Reese settled in the Perk in a glowery, sulky silence. She had a fantastic evening last night and an even restful sleep, the first in a long time.

And then she woke-up.

To say she was 'not pleased' was a serious understatement. She didn't like falling asleep as a girl and waking up looking like Cousin Omid's younger brother. Reese doubted if AA had any advice for suddenly waking up in the wrong gender.

Reese drank her coffee and convinced herself it was coffee she really wanted to drink.
